Spicy Tajín and Chopped Crab Meat Guacamole
Here is a recipe for a spicy Tajín and chopped crab meat guacamole.
Spicy Tajín and Chopped Crab Meat Guacamole
This recipe combines the creamy richness of avocado with the zesty, chili-lime punch of Tajín and the delicate sweetness of crab meat, creating a unique and delicious twist on classic guacamole.
Yields: 4-6 servings
Prep time: 15-20 minutes
Ingredients
3 ripe Hass avocados
1/2 pound cooked crab meat, imitation or real, drained and gently flaked
1/2 cup finely diced red onion
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1-2 jalapeños, finely minced (remove seeds for less heat)
1 lime, juiced
2-3 tablespoons Tajín Clásico seasoning, plus more for garnish
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, or to taste
Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper or a dash of your favorite hot sauce for extra heat
Instructions
Prepare the Guacamole Base: Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium-sized bowl. Mash the avocados with a fork to your desired consistency—some prefer it chunky, others smooth.
Add the Aromatics and Seasoning: Add the finely diced red onion, minced jalapeño, and chopped cilantro to the mashed avocado.
Incorporate the Tajín and Lime: Pour the fresh lime juice over the avocado mixture. Sprinkle in 2-3 tablespoons of Tajín Clásico seasoning and the kosher salt. Stir all the ingredients together until well combined. Taste and adjust the Tajín and salt as needed.
Fold in the Crab Meat: Gently fold in the flaked crab meat. Be careful not to overmix, as you want to keep the crab pieces intact.
Serve: Transfer the guacamole to a serving bowl. Garnish with an extra sprinkle of Tajín and a few fresh cilantro leaves.
Enjoy: Serve immediately with your favorite tortilla chips, plantain chips, or vegetable sticks.
Tips for Success
Avocado Selection: Choose avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure. If they are too hard, they aren't ripe enough. If they are mushy, they may be overripe.
Crab Meat: Canned or refrigerated pasteurized crab meat works well. If using imitation crab, make sure it is finely flaked. Real lump crab meat will provide a superior flavor and texture.
Spice Level: The heat from the jalapeño and the Tajín is mild. For a spicier kick, leave the seeds in the jalapeño, use a spicier pepper like serrano, or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Keep it Fresh: To prevent the guacamole from browning, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole before refrigerating. The lime juice also helps to slow down oxidation.
